Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Conor McGregor fight

Last week, UFC President Dana White said he and lightweight champion Conor McGregor had come to terms over the possible boxing match against Floyd Mayweather Jr. After locking up terms with his own fighter, the next step for White is to deal with Mayweather and his team to make the fight a reality, and though White has yet to have the chance to do so, things seem to be looking hopeful.

Over the weekend, Gervonta Davis, a fighter Mayweather promotes, successfully defended his IBF junior lightweight title in England and afterwards, in the ring, Mayweather was asked about McGregor and if he was coming back.

““If me and Conor McGregor do happen to make the fight happen, which I think the fight will happen, I would love for [Davis] to be on the undercard. . . I had a great career, and my career may not be over. Number 50 may be against Conor McGregor, we’ll just wait and see.”

Mayweather didn’t stop there though, In the post-fight press conference, the McGregor question reared it’s head again and this time Mayweather put the odds at returning against McGregor as very favorable.

“If he signed the contract - I’m over here working, I’m always working. . . When I get back over to the U.S., I’ll communicate with my team, I’ll call Al [Haymon, Mayweather’s manager], I’ll get Al and Leonard [Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions] on a business call to see what’s our next move. There’s no rush. When we do make the move, most likely it’s gonna be a huge move. You already know, when Floyd Mayweather fights, it’s history.

“If I do fight, it’s a 90 percent chance it’s against Conor McGregor.”

But wait, there’s more!

On Sunday, Mayweather attended a meet and greet event with fellow undefeated boxing champion Anthony Joshua. Once again Mayweather was asked about the potential for him to return and he gave his most committed answer yet as to making the fight happen.

“They said Conor McGregor signed his end of the deal. I look forward to signing my end of the deal. I haven’t signed my end of the deal yet so once I get home, I’ll communicate with my team, I’ll talk with Al Haymon, I’ll talk with Leonard, and we’ll see what we come up with. We’ll put all our great minds together and we’re gonna have another superfight.”

And of course McGregor wasn’t going to stay quiet during all of this. The lightweight champion took to Twitter to call out Mayweather as “just a mouth” unless he signs the deal.
