PACQUIAO to a Philippine Senator: "I will answer your question if you can survive 3 Rounds"

This is a classic example of non-sequitur, a statement that has nothing do with the the previous question or argument.

Last week, boxer-turned-politician senator Manny Pacquiao gave a speech to introduce his sponsorship of a bill commending and honoring Filipino weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz for winning a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. After Pacquiao’s sponsorship speech, senator Franklin Drilon indicated that he wanted to ask some questions.

However, as a Philippine Daily Inquirer report observed, Pacquiao appeared hesitant to take his questions.Taken aback, Drilon turned off the microphone and asked Pacquiao, "Bakit ayaw mo? Madali lang, Madali lang Manny. Isang question lang dali. Katuwaan lang.”("Why are you hestitant? It's going to be easy, Manny. It’s just one question. It’s just for fun.")

After being prodded by his colleagues to field Drilon's question, Pacquiao told Senate president Koko Pimentel, "Mr. President, I’m willing to yield (to some questions from my colleague) if he can survive three rounds."

Pacquiao's statement elicited laughter from everyone.

"It turned out later that Drilon just simply wanted to ask Pacquiao if he was willing to give Diaz cash incentives from his own pocket,” the report added.“After all, the Senate had already approved Drilon’s motion to give the silver medalist a cash incentive from the savings of the chamber."

Pacquiao remarked, "Definitely, I will give Hidilyn Diaz incentives from me, from my own pocket but I will not announce it because it’s personal."Now, that wasn't too hard, was it, Manny? Our advice to you: Stock up on better jokes because your “I am so clueless that I'm cute” act isn't going to hold up for your entire term.
